Kuruva Island

About 35 min by car

A cluster of small, wooded islands in the Kabini, reached on bamboo rafts and linked by footbridges. Visitor numbers are limited each day and opening depends on the season, so check before you go and arrive early.

Thirunelli Temple

About 55 min by car

An ancient temple to Vishnu in a valley of the Brahmagiri hills, with forest on every side. The road there runs through forest, so keep an eye out for wildlife on the way.

Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary

About 1 hr 10 min by car

Part of the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, on the border with Karnataka. The forest department runs jeep safaris in the morning and afternoon, and you may see elephants, deer and gaur.

Banasura Sagar Dam

About 35 min by car

A large earth dam with small islands scattered across the reservoir and the Banasura hills behind. Boat rides and easy walks along the dam.

Edakkal Caves

About 1 hr 10 min by car

Rock shelters high on Ambukuthi hill with carvings that are thousands of years old. The last stretch is a steep climb on foot, so wear good shoes.

Brahmagiri hills

About 55 min by car to the trailhead

Treks into the Brahmagiri hills start near Thirunelli Temple. The longer route climbs to Pakshipathalam, a group of giant boulders and caves known for their birdlife. You need a forest department permit and a guide, so ask us before you plan it.
